protest-march1I propose a tax on derelict and unused development land, to force the hand of speculating developers.  This will force those sitting on land waiting for an upturn of land price to contribute back to their community and not to force another property bubble.

This will force property speculators to develop much needed housing and viable business opportunities to create employment, jobs and housing.

Below is a very interesting article on site value tax by Economist Ronan Lyons in The Irish Independent from 2012.  He outlines how a site value tax could punish speculators and those who won’t free up land for commercial and residential use.  Speculation is part and parcel of what contributed to the property bubble in the past.  Have we learned nothing from the mistakes of the past.  Dublin City Council should seize the initiative and implement taxes on those developers and speculators who are not using…
